The Department of Public Safety at Syracuse University is committed to reducing crime, disorder, and the fear of crime on campus. We do this through awareness, education, prevention, intervention, advocacy, and efficient response.
The success of our mission is supported by engagement with members of the campus and the greater community, including and not limited to students, parents, staff, faculty, neighborhood groups, and city, state, national and international organizations.
Through active partnerships we are connected; are more effective; have better insight; are empathetic; and are better able to serve each of our constituencies.
Recent data support this mission: DPS responded to 19,621 calls for service (or dispatches) in 2004; we transported an average of 6,700 riders each semester in 2005 through the Shuttle U Home program; and we responded to 4,576 lockouts in 2005.
As the University raises its profile across traditional boundaries, we look forward to keeping pace and applying our mission and our services toward the goal of providing a safe campus community that supports quality learning, working, teaching, and cultural experiences.
