Shuttle Escorts
Shuttle-U-Home
The Shuttle-U-Home service provides transportation from the Syracuse University campus to the University Hill homes of SU students, faculty and staff. To use the shuttle, riders must go to the Students for Community Safety (SCS) program, located in 019 Watson Hall, and sign up. Riders are also required to show their SU or ESF I.D.
The service operates daily during the school year from 8:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. The Shuttle-U-Home program is an enhancement to the excellent transportation system already in place for SU students, faculty and staff. We encourage our students to use the existing CENTRO bus service whenever possible.
The service, with one driver and one monitor, departs from Watson Hall and operates within the following boundaries: East Raynor Avenue to Stadium Place; Oakland Street to Fineview Place; Almond Street to Harrison Street; Townsend Street to East Genesee Street; Westcott Street to Allen Street; Comstock Avenue to Jamesville Avenue; Ainsley Drive to East Brighton Avenue; Lafeyette Road to East Seneca Turnpike; Thurber Street to Jamesville Avenue; and East Colvin Street to Comstock Avenue (see link below for clarification). In addition, the shuttle will travel to the Nob Hill apartment complex, located about five minutes from campus on Lafayette Road in Syracuse.
Note: The shuttle service will not transport students, faculty or staff to Manley Field House or South Campus, as bus service is available to both locations on a regular basis. The shuttle service will also not go beyond the stated geographic boundaries.
Shuttle 44
Shuttle 44 is an additional free shuttle available to members of the Syracuse University community. The shuttle runs from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, and from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday through Saturday. To request a ride from Shuttle 44, call the Department of Public Safety at 443-SAFE (7233). Unlike with Shuttle-U-Home, you do not have to sign up at Watson Hall, you can simply call 443-SAFE, and the shuttle will be dipatched to your location.
Walking Escorts are provided for SU students, staff, and faculty on Main Campus from academic buildings to residence halls or parking facilities, and vice versa. The program operates from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. throughout the academic year. After 11:00 p.m. the Safety Marshal may provide either a walking or riding escort based on availability. To request an escort, call 315-443-SAFE.
When can a DPS officer provide a safety escort?
The first resource for safe student transportation on campus is the Centro and Caz Limo bus system. Safety escort requests to DPS during bus hours may be to the nearest bus stop. You should familiarize yourself with the bus schedules and plan your activities around the schedule. When the Centro busses are not available (generally from 3:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.), Student Safety Marshals or DPS staff will provide a walking or riding safety escort to SU students, faculty, and staff from on-campus or near-campus locations to another on-campus location, or if necessary, your near-campus residence. If busses are not running, the escort may be directly to a residence hall, south campus apartment (if the Caz Limo Warehouse Express is running, Main Campus to South Campus escorts may be referred to this service) or other near-campus apartment. The safety escort service is not a commuter ride service. These escorts are solely for your safety and not for convenience. For your convenience, local taxi services are readily available and listed in the local phone book.
Bus schedules are available through Centro here - we urge students to plan ahead and know the bus schedules.
And while the Department of Public Safety does not endorse any particular company, a listing of Syracuse taxi companies can be found here through yellowpages.com.
