HARASSING PHONE CALLS

Don't give your number to everyone you meet. Be careful when advertising in classified ads either on campus or in local newspapers.
- Remember that a telephone call is just as personal as face-to-face conversations. Report all suspicious calls IMMEDIATELY to the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, 443-2224 or 3-2224 from campus phones.
- If the caller remains silent, makes an obscene or suggestive remark, or sounds suspicious in his/her intention, HANG UP! Do not let the caller know if he/she has succeeded in upsetting you.
- Never talk on the telephone to strangers. An innocent comment, such as "I'm the only one home," could lead to problems.
- Report all suspicious telephone calls, especially those occurring before or during University vacations. These telephone calls could be potential thieves awaiting your departure from campus.
