TRAINING
AND REQUIREMENTS

Public Safety Officers
- Successful completion of physical fitness screening test
- Successful completion of psychological and drug testing
- Successful background investigation
- Peace Officer training (over 500 hours)
- Field training and evaluation program (12 weeks)
- Over 60 hours of annual professional development and specialized training
Community Service Officers
- Successful completion of psychological and drug tests; background screening
- 8-hours pre-employment training
- 16-hours on-the-job training
- Communications training
- Over 20 hours of annual in-service and professional development training
Communication Specialist
- Successful completion of psychological and drug tests; background screening
- 40 hours of state and national certifications through the Association of Police Communications Officials (APCO)
- Communications training and evaluation program
- Over 20 hours of annual in-service and professional development training
